Rebels and DARTH MAUL: APPRENTICE similarity

After seeing the FanFilm DARTH MAUL: APPRENTICE by T7Pro after I saw Star Wars Rebels: Twilight of the Apprentice, I noticed a similarity between a certain scene from both, as if Maul experienced almost sparing the life of someone before. In both DARTH MAUL: APPRENTICE and Twilight of the Apprentice, the following happens:

Maul Force-Chokes his enemy (Rebels - Seventh Sister | DARTH MAUL: APPRENTICE - Unnamed Jedi (In my "Journey of the Knight" Story, her name is Naare Dagura.))
There is hesitation to kill (Ezra hesitates to kill the Seventh Sister | Maul hesitates to kill Naare.)
Both want to back out.
Maul kills the enemy both times.
They are approached by their Master afterwards for their actions (although Maul scolds Ezra for not killing the Seventh Sister sooner.)

Do you see how similar these two are? You think Maul was trying to make Ezra do the same thing he was forced to do to complete his training?
